Music Evaluate: Ryu Sujeong (Lovelyz) – New Automotive

When speaking about woman group vocals I really like, Woollim Leisure’s Lovelyz usually comes up. The group is residence to a few of my favourite vocal tones in Ok-pop, and Ryu Sujeong is actually certainly one of them. Since Lovelyz went on hiatus she’s developed an indie-pop solo profession, most of which I haven’t written about right here. Nonetheless, the retro jolt of recent single New Automotive deserves consideration.

Typically you simply know you’ll like a track from its very first notes. As percussion fades in, New Automotive kicks off with pitch-perfect 80’s synth, providing an thrilling riff that will get the track off on a sprightly tempo. Sujeong’s beautiful vocals wrap round this beat with loads of character. Her characteristically breathy tone makes for an amazing distinction towards the brightness of the instrumental.

Better of all, New Automotive appears like a completely fleshed out track. It doesn’t hit any big peaks, however makes time for a bridge that lends an additional shot of drama to the finale. New Automotive isn’t rushed or truncated, and that sense of fullness is disarmingly old-school in the easiest way. I’d love to listen to her pursue this sound additional.
