Ah, Dignity. I’ve reviewed a tune of theirs annually since 2024. The general arc of their rankings has not been favorable, although they nonetheless boast one of the unexpectedly nice buried treasures to their title. New single Slipshot does little to reignite any spark I may need felt about their debut period.
To place it merely, Slipshot is a replica of a replica of a replica. It borrows numerous components from Okay-pop’s boy group soundscape, crafting a hodgepodge of tropes that’s comparatively stable however completely unneeded. We’ve acquired the swaggering chant of a refrain, just a few hits of shiny pop-funk and fairly just a few NCTisms packed into the instrumental. At its greatest, there are moments that recall early Seventeen b-sides. Nonetheless, the overriding takeaway I’ve after listening to the tune is the phrase “slipshot!” chanted again and again with no actual objective.
